College Area: Student
Hi! I’m Ben Vickars, your student representative. I currently study at St George’s, University of London. I started in August 2018 and represent my cohort at staff meetings.
In the ambulance service, I initially started as a CFR in 2016 before becoming an ECA with SCAS. I’ve worked as a CFR coordinator, taking CFRs out on their first shifts, helping them with service delivery and any problems they encountered. As an ECA I worked with clinicians to provide the ambulance resource. I’ve met a fair few Brookes and Northampton university students through this work!
In 2018 I decided to up my game and go for a student paramedic course. I completed my access course and applied to SGUL, where I was offered the course.
My interests include resilience, community education and cardiac services.
What is your one most important benefit of being a member and why?
To me the CPD offerings, conferences and best practise links represent the best bit the College has to offer.
What led you to become a representative trustee?
I wanted to improve the links for student paramedics and work with the College to enable students to steer the paramedic profession in the future.
How would you like to see the College develop over the next five years?
I’d like to see more student paramedics signing up to the College, with links between universities made more accessible for students.
