College of Paramedics CPD and
Member Engagement Session
Don’t miss this great opportunity to attend this unique Member Engagement Session and take part in two interesting and informative CPD sessions.
Programme includes
Conflict management, having that awkward conversation. CPD session with Sam Willis and Steve Poulton.
When managing a patient, communication is essential to their treatment and to ensure the patient receives the best care possible. However, have you ever been treating the same patient as your colleague and a disagreement occurs? Ever had that awkward conversation where you both have differing views on which path to take? During this session we will explore conflict management when having that awkward discussion, and discuss the benefits of enabling shared decision making.
Sam Willis is a programme coordinator in paramedicine in Western Australia, with an extensive career in the pre-hospital sector he’s researched and explored many aspects of crew resource management, he is the author of the Egg-Timer Model, which is currently being explored via other College of Paramedics events. The session will be facilitated by Steve Poulton, paramedic with Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
Dr John Martin FCPara, Chair (President) of Board presents: Member Engagement Session
This is your opportunity to contribute towards developing your professional body. You will hear from John, who will provide the latest updates on the College of Paramedics governance restructure. Member opinion and feedback is a valuable contribution towards our development, so providing this opportunity for the membership to engage is important to us. This engagement session will provide a unique opportunity for members to hear in more detail about the governance restructure of the organisation and importantly ask any questions that you may have on the restructure, the Articles and the associated legal processes. Being involved in your professional body in this way and participation in professional activities all contributes towards your CPD. There will be an opportunity to ask questions both verbally and through the chat function.
Perplexing Presentations and Fabricated or Induced Illness in Children Presented by Dr Danya Glaser
This session presented by Dr Glaser, will be based on the recently published Perplexing Presentations / Fabricated or Induced Illness (FII) in Children guidance by The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
The session will include an outline of FII, the signs when it may be occurring and how to distinguish it from physical abuse. Dr Glaser will be welcoming your questions during the presentation to help guide the session and learning, so it may be useful to think about what you think FII is, when you might come across FII and what your role is when you do. Dr Danya Glaser, initially a developmental paediatrician, now a child and adolescent psychiatrist. She has practised, taught, researched and written widely on various aspects of child maltreatment including sexual and emotional abuse, neglect, and fabricated or induced illness; child maltreatment and the Law with extensive expert witness work; the effects of child maltreatment on the developing brain; and Attachment. She is Visiting Professor at UCL and Honorary Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children London UK, working on the early recognition of FII. Dr Glaser is a past president of the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN).
