Managing a hypothermic patient can be extremely challenging in the pre-hospital environment and whereas we normally associate this class of patients to extremely cold mountainous environments we should be aware that we come into contact with them more regularly than we think. 

Those patients who suffer long lies, those who jump into rivers, and the party-goers can all succumb to the cold. In addition to managing these types of patients, we know should also be aware of the modifications to cardiac arrest management and Dr Gordon can provide that expert knowledge.

Dr Les Gordon is an experienced consultant anaesthetist, who started Mountain Rescue eleven years ago in the Lake District and has attended about 450 rescues. 

His special interest is accidental hypothermia, about which he has published several papers, written chapters in two books, given presentations at National and International conferences, and has drawn up and regularly updates Mountain Rescue England & Wales Hypothermia protocols.
